LOS ANGELES, CA– Thousands of people lost power throughout high temperatures overnight throughout the Southland, Los Angeles Department of Water & & Power officials said Wednesday.
“Extreme heat and electrical energy demand has triggered failures in parts of Los Angeles, currently impacting some LADWP clients,” Mayor Eric Garcetti stated on Twitter Tuesday night. “Crews are striving to restore power as quickly as possible.”
LADWP stated it might take between four and 12 hours for power to be restored.
The energy business might not instantly be reached for more information, but KCAL9 reported that there were 9,000 heat-related outages affecting about 1.5 million customers throughout Los Angeles.
LADWP's website showed blackouts in Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw, Beverly Grove, Boyle Heights, Brentwood, Broadway-Manchester, Carthay, Central-Alameda, Chatsworth, Cypress Park, downtown, Eagle Rock, East Hollywood, Echo Park, El Sereno, Elysian Park, Elysian Valley, Exposition Park, Green Meadows, Hancock Park, Highland Park, Historic South-Central, Hollywood, Hollywood Hills, Hollywood Hills West, Koreatown, Lake View Terrace, Larchmont, Lincoln Heights, Los Feliz, Mar Vista, Mid-City, Mid-Wilshire, North Hills, Pacific Palisades, Pacoima, Porter Ranch, Rancho Park, Reseda, San Pedro, Sherman Oaks, Silver Lake, Studio City, Sun Valley, Sylmar, Tarzana, Toluca Lake, University Park, Valley Glen, Valley Village, Van Nuys, Venice, Vermont Vista, West Hills, Westlake, Wilmington, Windsor Square and Winnetka.The National Weather Service has released a heat warning through 9 p.m. Thursday for the Los Angeles County Coast, including Downtown Los Angeles, Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Long Beach. Temperatures are expected to reach between 87 and 97 degrees.
“There is an increased danger for heat-related illnesses, especially for sensitive populations like the really young, very old, those without cooling, and those who engage in extended outdoor activities.”
People are advised to consume water and remain hydrated, avoid of the sun and remain near an air-conditioner. Look at neighbors, family members, and make sure children and animals are not left alone in a vehicle under any scenario.
