Authorities were following an irregular chauffeur on a number of highways through Los Angeles, from the San Fernando Valley to the Harbor area, Tuesday evening.
California Highway Patrol officers started a pursuit about 5 p.m. near the 101 Freeway and Las Virgenes Road in the Calabasas area, authorities stated. The driver was originally wanted for speeding and erratic driving, CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig said.
The motorist was soon leading authorities on surface area streets while weaving in and out of lanes in the Woodland Hills location.
Sometimes, the suspect was driving unpredictably and on the incorrect side of the roadway, while constantly speeding.
A minimum of two Los Angeles Police Department units were following the driver, while a helicopter was tracking the lorry in the air.
The motorist was stuck in traffic with the LAPD systems in tow while still in the San Fernando Valley, prior to weaving through cross traffic to continue to avert officers, aerial video from Sky5 showed.
The chauffeur then sped off and was going more than 80 miles per hour on surface area streets.
The motorist continued to speed and drive unpredictably, frequently heading on the wrong side of the road, aerial video revealed.
About 5:40 p.m., the motorist got on the southbound 405 Freeway and headed into the Sepulveda Pass, typically speeding in and out of lanes to prevent blockage.
At one point, however, the LAPD stopped tracking the driver because he was on the highway. The California Highway Patrol took over again and started following the chauffeur.
After clipping a vehicle while on the southbound 405 Freeway, the driver sped onto the right shoulder and continued into the Culver City area, aerial video revealed.
The chauffeur got off the highway about 5:50 p.m. but rapidly returned on and continued to evade authorities.
By the time the driver was in Inglewood near Los Angeles International Airport, only air units were tracking the suspect.
About 6 p.m. the driver got off the highway in Redondo Beach and appeared to have actually pulled into a car park, but rapidly drew back out when authorities units caught up.
The driver soon got back on the southbound 405 Freeway in Torrance before transitioning onto the 110 Freeway towards San Pedro.
By 6:15 p.m. the motorist was back on surface streets, however soon got back on the 110 Freeway and continued driving unpredictably into the West Carson location.
At that point Sky5 left the scene to refuel, and weather avoided the helicopter from relaunching.
The chauffeur was eventually apprehended quickly prior to 7 p.m., according to Kravig. She could offer no more information, consisting of the motorist's identity and the place of where he was detained.
