info you require, ideal to your inbox. Dr. Thomas Hower's almost 60-year career as a Greensburg chiropractor was a natural fit. He invested his youth years upstairs from the Main Street workplace where his likewise named dad, a second-generation chiropractic physician, worked– and where he also would see clients as an adult.
“A gentlemen came into the workplace on a stretcher and was not able to stroll,” stated the younger Hower's daughter, Ida Williams. “Sure enough, his daddy treated him, and the male came out walking. I believe that sufficed for my father to state, ‘I wish to do that.'
“He wished to help people and make them better. That's how he was drawn to chiropractic care.”
Dr. Thomas A. Hower, 80, of Unity died all of a sudden July 14, 2020, at his house.
Born July 9, 1940, in Greensburg, he was a boy of the late Thomas and Maxine Hower.
Dr. Hower had reduced his workload with advancing years but still was seeing patients soon prior to his death, Williams stated.
“It was really practical to have a father in the health field,” she stated, recalling how she hurt her nose as a young girl in a spill while horseback riding. “He took one look at my nose, did a fast little modification and said, ‘You're excellent.' “
Dr. Hower strove to supply the very best possible life for his child, Charles, who has developmental and physical disabilities, and he made the very same effort for others through his involvement with the ARC of Westmoreland and the Greensburg Rotary club. That consisted of partnering with the Rotary for almost 30 years to host an annual fishing derby for ARC customers with unique requirements and their households at a pond on his Unity residential or commercial property.
“It was terrific for them to have that experience,” Williams said. “There are great deals of blue gill and bass there. It was so simple to catch the fish, and it provided an opportunity to be with their peers and their families at the very same time.”
His service to others was acknowledged in 2001, when he was called Rotarian of the Year and received the Community Service Group of the Year Award from ARC.
Dr. Hower delighted in sharing his passion for outdoor pursuits, including fishing, searching, playing golf and horseback riding, with friends and family.
“He took pleasure in trying new things,” Williams said.
After the 2012 death of Jannette, his better half for more than 50 years, he developed an interest in discovering new kitchen area skills.
“He loved seeing cooking programs and developing meals,” Williams said. “He became a master at cooking chili. He might cook a venison roast to perfection.”
His ultimate complete satisfaction was recreating his grandma's recipe for sugar pie.
A 1962 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, he was president of the Westmoreland County Chiropractic Association from 1970 to 1972.
Child Rebecka Hutchinson, is continuing the household's chiropractic trade, while Williams and a third child, Elizabeth, work in education.
Dr. Hower and his wife were “very dedicated to everyone,” Williams said. “They made certain we pursued our dreams and were very supportive.”
Dr. Hower is survived by his kids, Elizabeth Hower of Hempfield, Charles “Chuckie” Hower of Coraopolis, Rebecka Hutchinson of Greensburg and her other half, Michael, and Ida Williams of Burgettstown and her husband, TL; and four grandchildren.
Due to the fact that of covid-19 preventative measures, there will be no public visitation or service. A minute of silence will be observed during the July 11, 2021, wedding of his granddaughter Nicole Bradley and her fiance, Allen Layton.
