National Guard soldiers will leave the Los Angeles area starting Sunday, one week after being released to assist in managing protests and spread robbery.
“After almost a week helping civil authorities on the streets of California, soldiers with the California National Guard will begin transitioning back to their house armories,” California National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. David Baldwin stated in an email.
Baldwin included, “The people of California know that whenever they need their California National Guard, whatever the scenario, when called, we will react– we are always ready and constantly there.”
June 7, 2020 The Cal Guard will still maintain a fast reaction force in several locations across the state all set to respond if regional police demand assistance, the National Guard stated.

National Guard soldiers showed up after a 4th day of demonstrations on May 30th. Mayor Eric Garcetti said he asked Gov. Gavin Newsom for 500 to 700 members of the Guard to assist the 10,000 Los Angeles Police Department officers after demonstrators clashed repeatedly with officers, torched squad car and pillaged businesses. In Addition, LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, together with the Board of Supervisors, made a request for support from the National Guard.
Approximately 1,000 soldiers shown up in Los Angeles on the first night, with the guv increasing those numbers in the days that followed. The troops did not directly police and were utilized to assist law enforcement in holding and guarding key websites across the county and city.
In all, Newsom set in motion more than 7,000 National Guard members to help regional authorities throughout the state, according to the California National Guard.
